Q? What stretches can I do for back pain?
- Many people experience back pain. In most people it is temporary and improves on its own. Though some people do have chronic back pain that requires long-term treatment. Stretching and regular exercise can help to prevent back pain and even help to treat back pain. Though it may be tempting to stop or greatly limit your physical activity when you experience back pain, that can actually add to the problem. Stretching and exercise have been shown to help reduce the severity and duration of back pain.
Q? When should I take an Antibiotic?
- Antibiotics are a great tool for treating bacterial infections. However, they are largely overused to treat sinus infections and upper respiratory infections that are largely caused by viruses. Viruses do not respond to antibiotics. Taking an antibiotic when it is not necessary can be harmful. There are some specific signs as well as testing that can help you and your doctor determine when an antibiotic is needed to treat an illness.

- Cold vs. Flu
It can be very difficult to tell the difference between when you have a cold and when you have the flu because the symptoms are very similar. In general the symptoms of the flu are more severe and more prolonged in the flu. There are medications that can help shorten the duration and severity of the flu if started early in the illness. The only way to know the difference for sure is to visit your doctor and have a flu test performed.

- DASH stands for Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension. It is a diet that was developed to help control blood pressure. It consists largely of reducing sodium in the diet and increasing fruits and vegetables.
Q? What should my cholesterol be and what do I eat to lower it?
- Cholesterol is a substance in the blood that is derived from fats. It is necessary at a certain level to maintain good health and normal body function. But if the level is too high, it can increase the risk of heart attack and stroke. Cholesterol level can be controlled by controlling the amount and types of fats in the diet, regular exercise, and sometimes with the use of medication.
Goal levels for the different types of cholesterol in your blood:
- Total cholesterol below 200
- LDL cholesterol below 130 – or much lower, if they are at risk of heart attacks or strokes
- HDL cholesterol above 60
- Non-HDL cholesterol below 160 – or lower, if they are at risk of heart attacks or strokes
- Triglycerides below 150

- If you are web enabled on the patient portal you can get most of your medical records there. If not you can call our office at 770-464-0280 and request a copy.

- Call 770-464-0280 after 5 PM to reach our on-call physician for non-emergency issues or care related questions. For emergencies, call 911.
Q? Can I get a same day appointment?
- Yes. It is important to us that we see you when you are sick.
Q? Do I have to make an appointment?
- No. Our physicians are available through appointments or you may simply walk in without an appointment. We prefer that you call for a same day appointment so we can give you the best time to come and try to prevent you from long waits when you don’t feel good.
