What is Botox?
Botox is a purified protein derived from the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. It works by temporarily relaxing the muscles that cause wrinkles and fine lines on the face. Botox injections are most commonly used to treat wrinkles between the eyebrows, crow’s feet around the eyes, and forehead lines.
How does Botox work?
During a Botox treatment, a small amount of the purified protein is injected into the targeted muscles using a fine needle. The injection process only takes a few minutes, and there is minimal discomfort. Botox will take effect over the next four to six days by relaxing the muscles and reducing the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines while maintaining a natural amount of facial expression. The effects of Botox are not permanent and usually last for three to six months, depending on how fast your body breaks it down. Our medical professionals willl work with you to customize a treatment approach that will produce your desired results.
Who Can Benefit From Botox?
Botox is an excellent option for anyone who wants to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines on the face. It is safe for most people and has been used for decades with an excellent safety record. We typically recommend Botox for people who want to address wrinkles between the eyebrows, crow’s feet, and forehead lines. Cosmetic Botox is primarily used to decrease wrinkles and fine lines of the forehead and around the eyes. The lower half of the face is more frequently treated with dermal fillers. We share additional benefits about Botox in this blog post.
