What is Botox?
Botox is a purified protein derived from the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. It works by temporarily relaxing the muscles that cause wrinkles and fine lines on the face. Botox injections are most commonly used to treat wrinkles between the eyebrows, crow’s feet around the eyes, and forehead lines.
How does Botox work?
During a Botox treatment, a small amount of the purified protein is injected into the targeted muscles using a fine needle. The injection process only takes a few minutes, and there is minimal discomfort. Botox will take effect over the next four to six days by relaxing the muscles and reducing the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines while maintaining a natural amount of facial expression. The effects of Botox are not permanent and usually last for three to six months, depending on how fast your body breaks it down. Our medical professionals willl work with you to customize a treatment approach that will produce your desired results.

How much does Botox cost?
Botox is priced by the unit. The number of units that you need will vary based upon your age, gender, skin type, and whether or not you have had a previous treatment. Botox is $12/unit at Our Family Health. An average number of units used can range from 20 to 50 depending on a person’s needs and aesthetic desires.
Does Botox Hurt?
Most people will not experience pain with Botox injections. Some individuals will experience a small sting of the tiny needle during the insertion and a small amount of redness which goes away quickly.
How long does it take for Botox to work?
Botox starts to work within a few days with optimal effect in 10 to 14 days.
What areas of the face can be treated with Botox?
We typically recommend Botox for people who want to address wrinkles between the eyebrows, crow’s feet, and forehead lines. Cosmetic Botox is less effective to treat the upper lip, mouth area, or neck lines. Dermal fillers are more effective in wrinkle reduction in these areas.
