Is Tirzepatide effective for weight loss?
Alongside lifestyle modifications, Tirzepatide has the potential to help individuals reduce their weight by as much as 20%. It’s important to recognize that lifestyle factors such as getting adequate sleep, stress management, movement, and consuming nutrient-dense foods will be a part of any long-term successful weight-loss journey. Additionally, when use of the drug is discontinued, many patients gain back the weight they have lost. Our Program helps prevent this by working to motivate sustainable lifestyle changes and offering a maintenance program.
Is Tirzepatide the same as Mounjaro?
Tirzepatide is the generic name for the active ingredients in Mounjaro. Mounjaro was specifically approved by the FDA for the treatment of type 2 diabetes and is manufactured by Lilly.
Is Tirzepatide the same as Ozempic?
While both Tirzepatide and Ozempic can aid in weight loss, they are not the same. Ozempic is Novo Nordisk’s tradename for the generic medication Semaglutide. Ozempic has been specifically approved for the treatment of type 2 diabetes.
Our Family Health offers a Semaglutide Medical Weight Loss program in addition to our Tirzepatide Medical Weight Loss Program.
Semaglutide is a GLP-1 agonist that can help to control appetite and increase feelings of fullness. Tirzepatide in contrast combines a glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) and GLP-1 receptor agonist. This combination makes Tirzepatide a more effective tool for some people.
Is Semaglutide effective for weight loss?
Alongside lifestyle modifications, Semaglutide has the potential to support a 15-20% weight loss of total body weight, making it a valuable tool in managing diabetes and obesity. It’s important to recognize that lifestyle factors such as getting adequate sleep, stress management, movement, and consuming nutrient-dense foods will be a part of any long-term successful weight-loss journey.
Is Semaglutide the same as Mounjaro?
Mounjaro is a similar medication, but it is different. Mounjaro is only available for people with a diagnosis of diabetes. It is a little more effective for weight loss and is currently going through the FDA approval process for weight loss. Semaglutide is branded under the names of Ozempic, Rybelsus, and Wegovy.
Do Tirzepatide or Semaglutide have any side effects?
As with all medications, some users do experience side effects. The most common side effect experienced while taking Tirzepatide or Semaglutide are nausea, constipation, or stomach pain. Your medical team member will discuss all side effects with you before prescribing either drug and can work with you to navigate any GI-related side-effects.
Is there a Maintenance Program available?
If you are a Georgia resident interested in a maintenance program and have previously taken a GLP-1, whether through Our Family Health or another provider, please email us at weightloss@ourfamilyhealthcenter.com.
